Overdue Update: Life!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s been awhile. A long while. I need to get better about posting here, and I need to get my 2018 Reading Review post done, which is a task I’m hoping to tackle this weekend. In the meantime, here’s a brief update going over what’s been happening.

Web Dev

First and foremost, I’m working on a career change — going back to being a web dev. I had originally planned on just being a front-end guy, but I’m leaning toward the full-stack route the more I get into a project that has been stuck in my head for awhile. The plan has been to tackle some personal projects and to contribute to some open source efforts in order to hone my skills. My current project is being used as a way of helping me learn SASS and Laravel. I’ve also been getting up to speed on git and grunt, neither of which existed when I was a dev, but are clearly pretty important. While this is going on, I’m still working as a project manager full-time (contract), until I’m comfortable with my skills.

Snowboarding

I took Eddy for a lesson on Sunday, and it went well. He had a 3-hour lesson, and I had a 90-minute lesson. We’re both hooked. And Sam is ready to jump into it now, too — and he’s got a lesson this Saturday afternoon. In the interest of saving money, I wasn’t going to spring for a lift ticket and gear rental, but man, I got the itch something fierce. Since Sunday, I’ve been pricing out board/binding/boot combos — I know I need a 163cm widebody, and I want a true twin, but I’m a little unclear on rocker/camber shapes. Going to try to keep it under $800, all-in, if possible.

Breath of the Wild

Holy shit, the kids got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas from my mom. I decided that I’d spring for a copy of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for myself, and holy shit, I’m so incredibly hooked right now, you guys. I literally do not want this game to end — I’ve opened all the towers, and I’ve tackled one of the four Divine Beasts. For over a week now, I’ve been at the point where I could go after the next one, but I keep finding reasons not to. This game is far and away the best Zelda game I’ve ever played…maybe the best video game I’ve ever played. Love it.
