Accomplishments: September 2024

Holy shit, I’m behind schedule on my monthly updates here. I rolled into September exhausted from all the travel we’d done in August, stuff that was booked long before I got laid off in early July. That said, I still had some ambitious ideas in mind rolling into September, and I had a lot on my plate.

  • Job Hunt
  • Training
  • 101 Things

Job Hunt

In September, things weren’t going well. Applications weren’t translating into interviews as often as I’d have liked. My plan was to double down on my volume of submitted résumés in October. I’d have liked to land something in October, but that hasn’t come to pass, yet.

Training

I got back on that horse — the diet is cleaned-up, my weight was (and is) below 195 for the first time in 15 years, and I’m managing to stick with the training. I’ve also changed plans — driving all the way to Tucson would be stupid, so I booked airfare, rental car, and bought a Thule bike case.

101 Things

Making great progress here. I posted a full update at the end of September.

Minor/Other Accomplishments

  • Digging into leetcode has been one of my big hitters this month. I’ve set an audacious goal of being in the top 5% of users on the site within two years.

Blockers

  • Moving mom from the nursing home to an assisted living facility was a bit of a time crunch at the end of the month. It was one of those things that had been half-looming on the horizon for a long time, and it entailed me getting a lot of her stuff sorted out in the old townhouse as part of prepping that for sale.

Conclusions/Learning

I need to step up my game across the board.
