Accomplishments: October 2026

Coming into October, I was starting a new 101 Things in 1001 Days, so I was going to have a few things that were going to be the focus of my month. I wanted to focus on items from that list, so I decided to focus on the following:

  • Get Scoutreads Close to Ready for Private Beta
  • Get the Wheelbuilding Facilities Kitted-Out
  • Keep at the Chess Learning

Scoutreads Private Beta

Oof, you guys, I am so so close on this. I’ll probably go live with the private beta during the first week of November, and by the end of November, I want to go to public beta (invite only). Once the private beta is going, I am going to call it done over on the current 101 Things list. WIN.

Wheelbuilding

Getting a good wheel building setup has been on my radar since the time Di and I bought the new place. This month, of the course of a few weeks, I got a new truing stand with dial indicators, a dishing gauge, and a nice digital tensiometer. I’ll be getting down to business with that in November. My build list for next month includes:

  • alternate gravel front wheel with a generator hub
  • alternate gravel wheelset, for shitty conditions/winter use
  • the Bridgestone RB-1 restoration wheelset (all original NOS parts)

This one is also a WIN.

Chess

I’m busting my butt to learn chess. I’ve got a chess.com account, I’ve bought a bunch of books, and I’m working my ass off to be a student of the game. My goal in the next two years is to get my ELO (rating) up to 1200. WIN.

Minor/Other Accomplishments

  • Absolutely crushed the garage. Got the gun safe set up and did a bunch of rearranging. Got the bins all numbered for the inventory system, got the antique sewing machine fobbed off on someone else, and kicked some ass with the cleaning and organization. Hung more pegboard, modded the workbench to improve the storage space, and all in all, it came out fucking fantastic. There’s still some more cleaning to do, and I need to get my mom’s old stuff out of there, but all in all, it went extremely well. Better than planned.
  • Got the home gym received, installed, and up and running. We’re going to be getting ripped over the course of the winter. Gonna be good.
