June was super-productive, and I’m really happy about it. I got back to the bike more rabidly (see below), and I got a bunch of other stuff done. My primary goals for the month were as follows:
- Replace the frame on the road bike
- For real get the web scraper built
- Remodel the walk-in closet
Replacing the Road Bike Frame
I’ve been experiencing some serious disappointment with the BMC Roadmachine frameset I’d purchased, and had a good chunk of the money set aside for a new frame, so I went ahead and got a Specialized Tarmac SL8 frameset and moved all the parts over. Generally speaking, the build was a pretty trivial process, except for the brake cables routed through the head tube, which is weird (from a mechanic’s perspective), but looks oh-so-clean. All in all, I’m very happy about it. She rides like a cruise missile. WIN.

Web Scraper
Fuck. This has been on my to-do list so many times, and incomplete so many times, that I should probably just give up on the fucking idea. Probably. We’ll see. I’m going to try to revisit this in July. FAIL.
Remodeling the Closet
Holy shit what a pain in the ass. Getting the shitty wire shelving out sucked. We patched the holes in the wall, we tore out the carpet and the pad, we painted. We painted the floor with Kilz because there were stains from previous owners’ animals in the particle board. We laid down a cork layer. We laid vinyl plank flooring. We engaged in the IKEAcalypse and installed a giant shelf organizer system. And at some point, we’re going to replace the light fixture. As I said to Didi, “It looks like a fuckin’ Apple Store in here. And I’m okay with that.” WIN.
Minor/Other Accomplishments
- Crushing Tears of the Kingdom was on my agenda, and with a new Switch 2, a bunch of free time on the bus during the commute, and a desire to get through all these games that I’ve bought but not finished, it was time. I’ve managed to make serious headway this month — especially when compared to the previous six months.
- The budget! With me working again, the house purchased, and buying out the lease on my CR-V, it was time for us to revisit the budget and start kicking some ass.
- Killed it on the reading this month (see below).
Reading

Blockers
- We had Lucky put down this month, and that was a kick in the nuts.
- Depression settled in like a fog for awhile there and I spent a bunch of time with my head up my own ass. I realized it dwhen it was happening and started calling around to find a new therapist.
- Finally started really paying attention to Andor, which sucked up a few hours of time.
- Added another project bike to the fleet after last month’s addition of a 1995 Specialized Stumpjumper FS. The new addition is an All-City Thunderdome (track bike).
Lessons Learned
- I need less attachment to bike parts. I have bins and bins of shit, most of which I am going to try to sell in July.
