Tour de Tucson: Finish

Came into this ready to rock. Last year, things didn’t go as well as I’d hoped. Last year, had a ton of back problems that really messed-up my event. This year, the back was generally better, and I brought some THC cream and some CBD/CBG gummies, just in case things got really shitty.

The weekend of the 8th/9th, I swapped tires. As usual, getting Continental tires onto Zipp rims was annoying as fuck.

The weekend of the 15th/16th, I installed new bar tape, brake pads, and a new chain, and boxed up a bunch of shit that I FedEx’d to my brother’s place in Tucson. I also skipped my planned dry run on packing the bike into the Thule travel case. (That last sentence is not foreshadowing.)

Flew out on the 20th. Did one light, 90-minute ride before the Big Show™.

The Big Show™ went really, really well. Dressed well, the bike was dialed in and survived the trip to (and from) Tucson. See my full recap.

Get a Job

Yeah, that still hasn’t happened. I’m working on it. And I’m not happy about the situation. I hope to have this dealt with in short order, though. I’m going to start focusing on networking and I’m going to join a job search council again.

Crush the Learning

Okay this is going well, actually. I’m busting my ass on Udemy coursework, I started re-learning Algebra from scratch so I can better help Eddy with his stuff, and I’m in the process of reading some deep books that I should’ve read 30 years ago.

Minor/Other Accomplishments

Wrapped up a major freelance project and got it out the door.

Also landed another freelance gig as a contractor for an agency I worked at from 2020 to 2022 (Br8kthru!)

Blockers

Secret Lair. Specifically, Wizards of the Coast and their Marvel decks. I was able to fill my cart and literally had to spend over three hours waiting to actually finalize my purchase. What a goddamned shitshow. I was so over it by the time the wait had been 20 minutes, but Eddy was dead-set on getting a set of the Wolverine cards, so I toughed it out. Oy.

The election results hit me kinda hard, and I didn’t really feel like training that week. Took me until Saturday to get on the bike, but I did crank out 33 miles in the rain and cold, and felt fucking fantastic.

Lessons Learned

When time is running out is when I’m at my best. I love crunch time. I also hate crunch time and need to get better about whittling down my to-do list bit by bit, instead of all at the last second.
