I had originally planned on getting this written on July 1, but with the way the month started off, I didn’t get to it until the 5th. Fortunately, it didn’t have an impact on my productivity. In the interest of saving my sanity, I only had two serious goals for the month, and if I’m honest I wasn’t all that hyped about them.
- Finally get the Scoutreads web scraper running.
- Make progress on the 101 Things in 1001 Days project.
Web Scraper
Holy shit, I finally got this done. I wrote a really detailed spec for what I wanted built and fed it to Claude for coding, and in 10 minutes or so, I had a working web scraper. It had some minor issues that needed to be dealt with, and those have been largely addressed since. The cool part about this process was that Claude produced pretty well-documented code, and I was able to use it to gather the data I needed. WIN.
101 Things
This might have been my most productive month ever where the 101 Things in 1001 Days is concerned. I blasted through a whole shitload of items, including taking Eddy to Florida to see a launch. The items I completed are: #51 (take Eddy to Florida to see a launch), #67 (get a new financial advisor), #68 (budget for monthly stock investment), and #71 (file my VA claim), #72 (read two books on investing). And holy crap, in addition to all that, I made a ton of progress on other items as well. You can read that in late September when I publish my next update. WIN.
Minor/Other Accomplishments
- Got my training locked-down and going again. Living the dream!
- Finished the garage, mostly. We got it organized, at least, but there’s still a need to build a workbench. August for that, maybe.
- Read a shit-ton of books in August.
- Made some serious progress in Tears of the Kingdom this month. Hoping to wrap it up in August and move on to Zelda: A Link to the Past next.
Reading

Blockers
- No real blockers this month.
Lessons Learned
- Just making bite-sized progress has been fucking amazeballs for my motivation. I’ve started chewing on things, even in little chunks every day. Marked progress = happier, more motivated Dan.
- Approaching things like therapy proactively is a massively beneficial habit. I started back at therapy this month, and pre-prepping between sessions has been really good for me.
