Accomplishments: May 2026

Coming into May after the hell that was April, I planned on kicking a lot of ass. It didn’t quite work out that way, unfortunately, and the end result was me not accomplishing nearly as much as I had intended. On the other hand, we did get a bunch of other stuff done around the house, which was nice.

  • Build workbench in garage, finish org
  • Do the 200km brevet
  • Blitz the 101 Things

Even this truncated list was a bit of a stretch as things are hectic with work, home, and so on. I mean, I still accomplished a lot of other stuff in addition to my meager work here, so I don’t feel like May was completely wasted.

Workbench

Oy. It’s done, but as of June 1st, it’ll still be sitting in the driveway. Why? Because I had to run to Home Depot to get a jigsaw. Got home, clicked the button to open the garage door, and things went to shit. So on June 5th, we’ve got someone coming out to install a new garage door, track, motor, etc. Then the workbench will go into the garage where it fucking belongs, yo. But it’s done! WIN.

200km Brevet

Wound up having to abort this this month, due to some back issues. I’m going to hit one in June, though, so I can be mentally ready for my 300km in July. FAIL.

Blitz the 101 Things

Did not do too well here, either. Made some progress on longer tasks, but didn’t get anything done, really. I’m not confident in how well I’m going to do between now and September. FAIL.

Minor/Other Accomplishments

  • The vegetable garden is up and going — zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries, pineberries, watermelon, a bunch of different types of tomatoes and peppers, onions, carrots, etc., etc. I had to build a above-ground garden box, and I’ve got enough lumber left to build something smaller, so I might crank out a potato box before much longer here.
  • Patched-up and remediated the lawn in the area that the dogs had been pissing all winter. In the interest of being completely forthright and giving credit where it’s due, I did the research, and Didi did the lion’s share of the work. I just helped figure out what we needed to do (gypsum, a small amount of fresh topsoil and fertilizer, and some tilling work), and then rolled out and arranged sod.
  • Got distracted by DIY solar and Meshtastic. Both things I’d like to pursue in the future.
  • Pre-drove the DAMN course with Sam, and wiped out most of a Saturday.

Blockers

  • Mom continues to need extra care since the transition to memory care, which sucks. But what’re you going to do?

Lessons Learned

  • Do more, mope around less.
