Accomplishments: October 2025

The agenda for this month was to keep hammering at the 101 Things in 1001 Days. I’ve been making a ton of progress in it lately, so I targeted three particular tasks:

  • Get danbailey.dev up and running, finally
  • Do my PCAP certification
  • Rewrite the Scoutreads scraper

In the end, it was too much, especially with everything else I had going in the month. Oh well. Here’s the jist of it:

❌ Get DanBailey.dev Up and Running

This didn’t end up getting to the finish line, but probably will in November. I’ve been learning wagtail and getting things set up and running, and it’s been…interesting. I need to also figure out how to get gunicorn running behind my Apache webserver as part of making this work. So while I made great progress on this over the course of the month, it was still a FAIL.

❌ Do My PCAP Certification

Yeah, this too. I did a bunch of studying. Watched videos. Took notes. I need to consolidate those notes into a study guide so that I can be completely prepped and ready to go when I do take this. Ultimately, I FAILED this one out of an overabundance of caution. It’s $300 for the test and you only get one re-take. So I’m planning on being ready for the test in November sometime.

✅ Rewrite the Scoutreads Scraper

This is went…okay. I rebuilt from scratch. There’s some stuff that needs to be fine-tuned, but it works and I’ve slowly been accumulating the data I need.

🛑 Blockers

  • The exhaustion from my whirlwind trip to Philly, combined with a lot of work at the office, combined with some drama re: the kids and their schoolwork left me drained and having difficulty focusing. Yeeowch.
  • A very productive September probably brought me down a bit, too — energy levels backlashed a lot. Ugh.

🧐 Lessons Learned

  • Never underestimate how exhausting travel can be. Especially road trips. (Who’s taking a longer one next month? This guy!)
